For the Book: The Green Ember
For this craft, All you need are Popsicle sticks and red yarn or ribbon. I could walk you through each step in my own words, but why not let the story speak for itself? 🙂
“She had crossed two short sticks and made an X shape. Then she added another, giving it six points. She tied them together with the long scarlet ribbon. Heather smiled. It was pretty, like a star.” “…she tied off the ribbon around the star at it’s center, leaving its long scarlet train to flap in the breeze.”
From there, the kids could take turns throwing their star into the yard, wait for it to hit the ground, then make like the wind to see who gets there first. Just like Heather and Picket did!
Fan Art
In the Green Ember, Lighthall is a room where important events were illustrated and kept. We created a LightHall of our own for the kids to display their fan art for the book. Their details impressed us all!
Redeye Garlackson Pinata
For this activity, all you need is a donkey pinata, paint, a rope, a stick (or swords!), and the candy for filling. We felt a little bad for Ole Redeye, but he kind of had it coming!
